Red Mood Beret

From time to time when I'm done with big projects, I tend to grab a skein -that I've bought and forgotten about- and make a hat of any kind.
This time it's a red beret. My daughter is very fond of it, so we decided to make her the model. It's easy, fun, and takes no time to make. Have fun crocheting it for the holidays.

Level: Intermediate

Materials:

  • Yarn: Nako Vizon: (100% premium acrylic, 100 g/ 3.53 Oz, 195 m/ 213 yds): Flame Red, color no.207: 1 skein.
  • Hook size 6 mm/ US J 10.
  • Tapestry needle.

Measures:
10 inch/ 25 cm diameter.

Gauge:
15 sts x 8 rows in dc sts.

Yardage:
185 -195 m/ 200- 213 yds.

Crochet terms:
ch: chain
sc: single stitch
dc: double crochet

Instructions:

Make a magic ring, or chain 6 sts and ss to first ch to make the ring:

Round 1: ch 3 (count as dc), dc 19, ss to third ch of first ch 3. (20 sts)

Round 2: ch3, dc 2 in dc, *dc in dc, dc 2 in dc, repeat from * to end, ss to third ch of first ch 3. (30 sts)

Round 8: ch3, dc in dc six times, dc 2 in dc, *dc in dc seven times, dc 2 in dc, repeat from * to end, ss to third ch of first ch 3. (90 sts)

Round 10: ch 1, sc in every dc to end, ss to first ch. (100 sts)

Round 11: ch 1, sc in sc to end, ss to first ch. (100 sts)

Make bead st pattern like in the linked video, as follows:

Round 12: ch 4 (count as dc + ch), *skip st. dc I in next st, work next around the dc you’ve just made: (yo, insert hook around dc, yo and bring back) three times, yo, pull through 6 loops, yo, pull through 2 loops, repeat from * to end of round, ss to third ch of first ch 4, (yo, insert hook around dc, yo and bring back) three times, yo, pull through 6 loops, yo, pull through 2 loops, ss to st next to last bead st.

Round 13: ch 1, sc in each dc and st next to it, ss to first sc. (100 st)

Round 14: repeat round 11. (100 sts)

Round 15: ch3, dc in dc seven times, dc2tog, *dc in dc eight times, dc2tog, repeat from * to end, ss to third ch of first ch 3. (90 sts)

Round 16: ch3, dc in dc six times, dc2tog, *dc in dc seven times, dc2tog, repeat from * to end, ss to third ch of first ch 3. (80 sts)

Round 17: ch3, dc in dc five times, dc2tog, *dc in dc six times, dc2tog, repeat from * to end, ss to third ch of first ch 3. (70 sts)

To make the edge band tight, work next rounds with double thread:

Round 18: ch 1, sc in dc to end, ss to first ch. (70 sts)

Rounds 19 - 20: ch 1m sc in sc to end, ss to first ch. (70 sts)

Cut yarn and weave in loose ends.

Make a pompom with diameter of approx 5 cm [2’’], with the remaining yarn, and attach it on the top of the beret.

Lastly, feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions or find something confusing in the pattern.
