Cotton Candy Skies Shawlette

Materials:

  • Suggested yarn: Lion brand Mandala, 100% acrylic, 5.3 oz (150 g), 590 yards (540 m), in the color Liger (232F), 1 cake.
  • Knitting needles, size US 8 (5 mm), straight or circular.
  • Tapestry needle.

Measurements: width = 24.5" (62 cm), length = 48" (122 cm), approx.

Yardage: 575 - 580 yards (530 - 535 m), approx.

Gauge: 18 stitches and 26 rows = 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) in stockinette stitch and US 8 (5 mm) knitting needles.

Knitting terms:

  • st: stitch.
  • sts: stitches.
  • k: knit.
  • p: purl.
  • yo: yarn over.
  • (sl st)k: slip stitch knit-wise.
  • (sl st)p: slip stitch purl-wise.
  • k2togtbl: knit two stitches together through back loops.




Instructions:

Cast on 6 sts, then work as follows:

Row 1: k 3, p 3.

Row 2: (sl st)k, k 1, yo, k 4.

Row 3: k 3, p 2, sl st, p 1.

Row 4: sl st, k 1, yo, (k2togtbl, k the second st through back loop again), k 3.

Row 5: k 3, (sl st)p, p 2, (sl st)p, p 1.

Row 6: (sl st)k, k 1, yo, k 1, (k2togtbl, k the second st through back loop again), k 3.

Row 7: k 3, (sl st)p, p 3, (sl st)p, p 1.

Row 8: (sl st)k, k 1, yo, p 2, (k2togtbl, k the second st through back loop again), k 3.

Row 9: k 3, (sl st)p, p 1, k 2, p 1, (sl st)p, p 1.

Row 10: (sl st)k, k 1, yo, k 1, p 2, (k2togtbl, k the second st through back loop again), k 3.

Row 11: k 3, (sl st)p, p 1, k 2, p 2, (sl st)p, p 1.

Row 12: (sl st)k, k 1, yo, k 1, (k2togtbl, k the second st through back loop again), p 2, (k2togtbl, k the second st through back loop again), k 3.

Row 13: k 3, (sl st)p, p 1, k 2, (sl st)p, p 2, (sl st)p, p 1.

Row 14: (sl st)k, k 1, yo, k 1, (k2togtbl, k the second st through back loop again), p 2, (k2togtbl, k the second st through back loop again), k 3.

Row 15: k 3, (sl st)p, p 1, k 2, (sl st)p, p 3, (sl st)p, p 1.



General pattern:

Row 16: (sl st)k, k 1, yo, *p 2, (k2togtbl, k the second st through back loop again), repeat from * to last 3 sts, k 3.

Row 17: k 3, *(sl st)p, p 1, k 2, repeat from * to last 3 sts, p 1, (sl st)p, p 1.

Row 18: (sl st)k, k 1, yo, k 1, *p 2, (k2togtbl, k the second st through back loop again), repeat from * to last 3 sts, k 3.

Row 19: k 3, *(sl st)p, p 1, k 2, repeat from * to last 4 sts, p 2, (sl st)p, p 1.

Row 20: (sl st)k, k 1, yo, (k2togtbl, k the second st through back loop again), *p 2, (k2togtbl, k the second st through back loop again), repeat from * to last 3 sts, k 3.

Row 21: k 3, *(sl st)p, p 1, k 2, repeat from * to last 5 sts, (sl st)p, p 2, (sl st)p, p 1.

Row 22: (sl st)k, k 1, yo, k 1, (k2togtbl, k the second st through back loop again), *p 2, (k2togtbl, k the second st through back loop again), repeat from * to last 3 sts, k 3.

Row 23: k 3, *(sl st)p, p 1, k 2, repeat from * to last 6 sts, (sl st)p, p 3, (sl st)p, p 1.

Repeat the general pattern to end of the yarn. Keep enough yarn for the bind off row.



Stretchy bind off row: k 2, slip the 2 sts back to left needle, k2tog, *k 1, slip the 2 sts back to left needle, k2tog, repeat from * to end. You can watch my tutorial video for the stretchy bind off method here: 

 
Weave in loose ends.
