Hi knitters! Halloween is just around the corner, and I’m excited to share a fun new hat design that brings together cozy knitting and a little light balloons spooky-season magic! The first version of the hat features cheerful pumpkins themed balloons against a black background, bursting out of cream-colored ribbed brim. The playful pumpkin balloon pattern makes it perfect for Halloween, while the classic beanie shape keeps it cozy and wearable throughout the chilly autumn days. The second Hat features another cheerful themed balloons but with friendly ghosts. You can choose to make one of the patterns and sizes.
So whether you’re knitting it for yourself, a little one, or as a festive gift, I hope you enjoy watching these little creepy balloons come to life stitch by stitch.

Materials:
- Suggested yarn: Alize superlana maxi, (75% acrylic, 25% wool, 3.5 oz (100 g), 109 yards (100 m), in the following colors and quantities:
- Child size: black (60), purple (209), and light cream (62), one skein each.
- Adult size: black (60), orange (225), and light cream (62), one skein each.
- Circular knitting needles, 16" (40 cm) long, sizes US 9 (5.5 mm) and US 10 (6 mm).
- Double pointed needles (DPNs) set, size US 10 (6 mm).
- Tapestry needle.
- Ring stitch marker.
- Child size: height: 8.7" (22 cm), head circumference: 18" - 19" (46 - 48 cm).
- Adult size: height: 9.8" (25 cm), head circumference: 21" - 22" (53 - 56 cm).
Gauge: 14 stitches and 18 rounds = 4"x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) in stockinette stitch and US 10 (6 mm) knitting needles.
Yardage:
- Child size: 83 - 85 yards (76 - 78 m), approx.
- Adult size: 96 - 98 yards (88 - 90 m), approx.
- st: stitch.
- sts: stitches.
- k: knit.
- p: purl.
- ssk: slip, slip, knit the two slipped stitches together through back loops.
Instructions:
With Black (cream) color yarn and circular knitting needles US 9 (5.5 mm), cast on 60 (70) sts. Join in the round. Don't know how to join in the round? here is a short tutorial on how to do it (from 0:26 - 1:15 min):
Put a ring stitch marker at the beginning of rounds, work as follows:
Rib round: k 1, p 1, repeat to end.
Repeat the rib round four (five) more times. Change to circular knitting needles size US 10 (6 mm) while knitting next round. Work the pattern as shown in the chart, cut off all colors but Purple (Black) yarn for decreasing rounds.
Decreasing rounds:
Round 1: ssk, k 8, repeat to end. [54 (63) sts]
Rounds 2, 4, 6, 8: k to end.
Round 3: ssk, k 7, repeat to end. [48 (56) sts]
Round 5: ssk, k 6, repeat to end. [42 (49) sts]
Round 7: ssk, k 5, repeat to end. [36 (42) sts]
Note: change to DPNs when needed.
Child size:
Round 9: ssk, k 4, repeat to end. (30 sts)
Round 10: ssk, k 3 repeat to end. (24 sts)
Round 11: ssk, k 2, repeat to end. (18 sts)
Round 12: ssk, k 1, repeat to end. (12 sts)
Round 13: ssk, repeat to end. (6 sts)
Adult size:
Round 9: ssk, k 4, repeat to end. (35 sts)
Round 10: k to end.
Round 11: ssk, k 3 repeat to end. (28 sts)
Round 12: ssk, k 2, repeat to end. (21 sts)
Round 13: ssk, k 1, repeat to end. (14 sts)
Round 14: ssk, repeat to end. (7 sts)
Cut the yarn, leaving a 6" (15 cm) tail. Thread the tail through all stitches, pull tight to close, and secure. Weave in the loose ends.
