Weaved Flowers Shrug

Hello everyone! It's time to make a simple and fun shrug as requested by my daughter. This is the first time I share a shrug design, so I wanted to make something easy to knit. I went for the weaved pattern; a straightforward pattern that repeats every 12 rows. You can make the shrug in any size you like by merely adding or subtracting a certain number of stitches and rows to or from the basic pattern (all of this and more are included in a detailed note at the top of the instructions). So, pick up your favorite yarn and start knitting, and you’ll get yourself one eye-catching shrug in no time. Enjoy!

Materials:

  • Yarn: Alize Baby Flower, 94% acrylic, 6% polyamide, 3.53 oz (100 g), 230 yards (210 m), in the color "5386": 5 (6) skeins.
  • Circular knitting needles, 32" (80 cm) long, size US 9 (5.5 mm).
  • Tapestry needle.
  • Stitch markers.
Sizes and measurements:
  • Size S: length = 46" (118 cm), height = 29" (74 cm).
  • Size M/L: length = 50" (127 cm), height = 33" (83 cm).

Yardage:

  • Size S: 1000- 1006 yards (915- 920 m), approx.
  • Size M/L: 1185- 1200 yards (1083- 1097 m), approx.
Gauge: 18 sts and 25 rows = 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) in stockinette stitch.

Knitting Terms:

  • st: stitch.
  • sts: stitches.
  • sl st: slip stitch.
  • k: knit.
  • p: purl.
  • yo: yarn over.
  • k2tog: knit two stitches together.
  • ssk: slip, slip, then knit the two slipped sts together through back loops.

Instructions:

Note: to make a larger size, adjust as follows: every 16 sts increase to the number of cast on sts will add 3.5" (9 cm) to the width, and every additional repeat of the general pattern will add 3.5" (9 cm) to the height. Do the opposite if you want to go smaller than size S.

Cast on 221 (237) sts (multiple of 8 sts of the pattern + 3 sts for symmetry + 2 edge sts). Work as follows:

General pattern:

Rows 1 and 3: sl st, *k 3, p 5, repeat from * to last 4 sts, k 3, p 1.

Rows 2 and 4: sl st, *p 3, k 5, repeat from * to last 4 sts, p 4.

Row 5: sl st, *k 3, yo, ssk, k 1, k2tog, yo, repeat from * to last 4 sts, k 3, p 1.

Rows 6, 8 and 10: sl st, *k 4, p 3, k 1, repeat from * to last 4 sts, k 3, p 1.

Rows 7 and 9: sl st, *p 4, k 3, p 1, repeat from * to last 4 sts, p 4.

Row 11: sl st, k 1, *k 1, k2tog, yo, k 3, yo, ssk, repeat from * to last 3 sts, k 2, p 1.

Row 12: repeat row 2.

Repeat the general pattern fourteen (sixteen) times, then repeat rows 1- 10 once. Bind off all sts.

Assembly:

Lay the shrug out flat, then fold it in half lengthwise. Place markers on each side 4" (10 cm) below the fold for armholes. Seam sides from the marker down to the lower edge.
