Hello everyone! It's very fun making a simple and quick-to-knit project using leftover yarn from previous projects. The challenge is creating a design that uses just what's left without having to go and purchase more of it -because you overshot- which beats the purpose (I'm obviously speaking from experience, haha!). Sometimes though, you have just enough material left to come up with a beautiful piece that complements the main one. For example, one of my favorite works, the Hashtag Jacket, the leftovers of which I turned into a Slouchy and Mittens matching set. Now, I've made many cowls from bulky yarn in the past, because I think it keeps the neck especially cozy during really cold days. This Nako Spaghetti Effect yarn (left unused from my Scalloped Chocolate Shawlette and Hat) is so easy to knit using 8 mm to 10 mm needles, and looks so stunning even with a simple garter pattern. I found that garter stitch and lace pattern worked in stripes of two colors gave the cowl the wavy shape I was aiming for. I hope you like it and enjoy making it.
Gauge:10 sts x 17 rows = 4"x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) in garter pattern.
Knitting Terms:
st: stitch.
sts: stitches.
k: knit.
p: purl.
k2tog: knit 2 sts together.
ssk: slip, slip, knit the 2 sts together through back loops.
Instructions:
With dark brown, cast on 72 sts, join in the round. Don't know how to join in the round? here is a short tutorial on how to do it (from 0:26 - 1:15 min):
Put the ring stitch marker at the beginning of rounds. work as follows:
Round 1: k all sts.
Round 2: p all sts.
General Pattern:
Round 1: (k2tog, yo) three times, k 6, repeat to end.
Round 2: k 6, p 6, repeat to end.
Repeat rounds 1 and 2 three times.
Bind light brown yarn (don't cut dark brown yarn), work as follows;
Round 3: k 6, (yo, ssk) three times, repeat to end.
Round 4: p 6, k 6, repeat to end.
Repeat rounds 3 and 4 three times.
Repeat the general pattern once more, then repeat the first six rounds with the dark brown yarn, p one round.
Stretchy bind off row: k 2, slip the 2 sts back to left needle, k2tog, *k 1, slip the 2 sts back to left needle, k2tog, repeat from * to end. You can watch my tutorial video for the stretchy bind off method here:
Weave in loose ends.

Hi knitters! As I mentioned in my previous post, when I finish a project and still have some yarn left, I try to make use of it by creating accessories for the main piece. So first I made the Hashtag Jacket, then with the leftover yarn I made the Hashtag Slouchy, and now, made with the last remains of the skeins, I present to you the Hashtag Mittens. Making mittens was a challenge for me at first, because it took me a while to get used to the double pointed knitting needles, a must for knitting a small tube shape. In addition to that, I was using more than one yarn, and adopting the mosaic pattern into the mittens' pattern, all at the same time. But the result was worth the hard work, and I'm very pleased with these mittens. 2020 was the year of hats for me, so maybe this year will be the year of mitten projects. Paint Box yarn: 100% Cotton, 1.7 oz. (50 g), 93 yard (85 meter). For size S/M: one skein of Slate Green 1010 (yarn D). For size M/L, one skein of each of the following colors:

Instructions:

Round 2 (A) and every even number row: purl the knit sts and slip the slipped sts purl-wise (with yarn in back). Round 3 (black): k 1, sl st 1, k 5, sl st 1, k 3, sl st 1, repeat to end. Round 5: k2tog to end. 9(12) Cut a 10 cm / 4" long yarn, pull it through all sts and tighten tog. Weave in loose ends.
THUMB: Slip the 8 sts of the thumb back on double pointed needles size 4 mm. pick up 8 sts in the edge behind the thumb, and insert sm into the beginning of round. 16(16) sts knit 20(22) rounds, then Work as follows: Round 1: k2tog, repeat to end. 8(8) sts Round 2: p to end. Round 3: k2tog, repeat to end. 4(4) sts Cut a 10 cm / 4" long yarn, pull it through all sts and tighten tog. Weave in loose ends.

Hello friends! In a few days, we'll be saying goodbye to 2020, which was a roller-coaster of a year. For me, it pushed my work towards limitless horizons. In addition to designing, I went back to my old posts and reviewed them, in response to many of you who pointed out mistakes, or gave suggestions to improve the quality of the instructions, so thank you all so much.
For this shawl I used the mosaic pattern, which I first saw on Pinterest a couple of years ago. I really liked it and worked hard to learn how to knit it. You can see my previous pieces like Candy Cane Beanie, Parachutes Cowl and Christmas Lights Hat and observe my journey to decipher and tame this technique to make my own unique patterns. As for the yarn, I had an old scarf I've made for Christmas that badly needed an update, and when I gave it a second glance I decided that there was no saving it, so I undid it and used the yarn to make this shawl. As you can see in the images, this piece features three types of snowflakes falling over a row of Christmas trees. I tried many versions of this shawl until I was satisfied, and I really like this final result, it's very beautiful and you just want to follow the snow with your eyes as it falls down. I hope you give it a try and make it for yourself or your loved ones.

With green yarn:
Row 1: k 11, *sl st 1, k 15, repeat from * to last 12 sts, sl st 1, k 10, (k, p) into last st.
Row 2: k 2, M 1, k 10, *bring yarn to front, sl st 1, bring yarn to back, k 15, repeat from * to last 12 sts, bring yarn to front, sl st 1, bring yarn to back, k 9, ssk.
With red yarn:

Cut green yarn. With red yarn, repeat rows (1-2) of the General Pattern twice.

Weave in loose yarn and block if needed.

I can't imagine how quickly time goes by, the first half of the year has already passed. So, it's about time to start preparing projects for cold months, and see what is needed to work them.
As a matter of fact, I didn't do many pieces that can be called summer projects, such as doilies, light shawls and baby cotton blankets, because almost all my yarn stash this year has been bulky and woolly.
This project's yarn is an old fine wool, originally designated for making socks. I purchased it more than ten years ago. It's obvious that I can't design adult socks, so I was inspired lately by the Inca old clothing to turn it into a light shawl with fringes, it's simple, yet elegant, and suitable for many outdoor occasions. I hope you have fun knitting it.

Material:
Sockenwolle “sirmione”, 100% premium acrylic, 50 g. / 1.76 oz., 210 m / 230 yards: 4 skeins.
(Suggestion: You can use any fine yarn suitable for knitting socks, and work it using thicker needles than what is suggested by the manufacturer. It should get you the same result).
Cast on 5 sts, k one row, put a stitch marker in center st, always keep the stitch marker in the center st, work as follows:
Row 1: *k 1, yo, repeat from * four times, k 1, turn.
Row 2: k 1, yo, k to last st, yo, k 1, turn.
Row 3: k 1, yo, k to center st, yot, k 1, yot, k to last st, yo, k 1, turn.
Row 4: k 1, yo, k all sts (k the yot as 1 st) to last st, yo, k 1, turn.
Repeat rows 3 and 4, until sts count 495, or you get the desired measures (total number equals= multiple of 4+1), knit one row.
Cast off Row:
Follow the steps:
1. co 2 sts.
2. *insert left needle into the right needle st from back to front, yo the right needle and draw it out to make a new stitch (like making a chain in crochet), pull out the left needle, repeat from * 4 times.
3. Insert left needle into the root of the same stitch (that you made 4 chains into) from back to front and knit one st, now there are 2 sts in right needle, slip the first over the second.
4. Cast off 4 sts.
Repeat steps (2 - 4) to the last 3 sts, cast them off, cut yarn.
Weave in loose ends, make a six strands (30 cm long each) bundles for fringes, and insert them in first and last eight (4 ch rings), middle fifteen (4 ch rings) and every alternate rings in between.
