Materials:
- Suggested yarn: Alize Burcum Classic, (100% acrylic, 3.5 oz (100 g), 230 yards (210 m):
- 6-12 months: one skein of Dark Grey (196) (referred to as color A), and White (55).
- Toddler-child: one skein of Bordeaux (57) (referred to as color A), and Cream (01).
- Adult: one skein of red (106) (referred to as color A), and light gray (208).
- Crochet hook, size 5 mm (H).
- Tapestry needle.
- 6-12 months: crown width: 5"- 5.5" (13 - 14 cm), height: 6.3" (16 cm), head circumference: 16" - 17" (41 - 43 cm).
- Toddler- Child: crown width: 6"- 6.5" (15 -17 cm), height: 7.5" (19 cm), head circumference: 18" - 19" (46 - 48 cm).
- Adult: crown width: 7"- 7.5" (18 - 19 cm), height: 8.5" (22 cm), head circumference: 21" - 22" (53 - 56 cm).
Yardage:
- 6-12 months: 93 - 98 yards (85 - 90 m), approx.
- Toddler- Child: 142 - 148 yards (130 - 135 m), approx.
- Adult: 153 - 158 yards (140 - 145 m), approx.
Crochet terms:
- ch: chain.
- sc: single crochet.
- hdc: half double crochet.
- dc: double crochet.
- sl st: slip stitch.
- bpsc: back post single crochet.
6-12 months size:
With yarn color A, make a magic ring (or chain 6 sts and sl st to first ch to make the ring), work as follows:
Round 1: ch 3 (count as dc), dc 11, sl st to third ch of first ch 3. (12 sts)
Round 2: ch 3 (count as dc) and dc in first st, *dc 2 in st, repeat from * to end, sl st to third ch of first ch 3. (24 sts)
Round 3: ch 3 (count as dc), dc 2 in st twice, *dc 1 in st, dc 2 in st twice, repeat from * to end, sl st to third ch of first ch 3. (40 sts)
Round 4: ch 3 (count as dc), dc in st twice, dc 2 in st, *dc 1 in st three times, dc 2 in st, repeat from * to end, sl st to third ch of first ch 3. (50 sts)
Round 5: ch 3 (count as dc), dc in st three times, dc 2 in st, *dc 1 in st four times, dc 2 in st, repeat from * to end, sl st to third ch of first ch 3. (60 sts)
Rounds 6-9: ch 3 (count as dc), dc in st to end, sl st to third ch of first ch 3. (60 sts)
Toddler-Child size:
Work the 6-12 months size instructions until you finish round 5.
Round 6: ch 3 (count as dc), dc in st four times, dc 2 in st, *dc 1 in st five times, dc 2 in st, repeat from * to end, sl st to third ch of first ch 3. (70 sts)
Rounds 7-11: ch 3 (count as dc), dc in st to end, sl st to third ch of first ch 3. (70 sts)
Adult size:
Work the Toddler-Child size instructions until you finish round 6.
Round 7: ch 3 (count as dc), dc in st five times, dc 2 in st, *dc 1 in st six times, dc 2 in st, repeat from * to end, sl st to third ch of first ch 3. (80 sts)
Rounds 8-13: ch 3 (count as dc), dc in st to end, sl st to third ch of first ch 3. (80 sts)
Main pattern for all sizes:
Round 1: ch 3 (count as dc), skip st, ch 1, *dc in st, skip st, ch 1, repeat from * to end, sl st to third ch of first ch 3. [60 (70, 80) sts]
Round 2: ch 1 and sc in first st, sc in ch 1 space, *sc in st, sc in ch 1 space, repeat from * to end, sl st to first ch.
Round 3: ch 1, bpsc into st, repeat to end, sl st to first st.
Round 4: ch 1, sc in st to end, sl st to first st.
Work next round with the second yarn color.
Round 5: ch 2 (doesn't count as hdc), hdc into st, hdc into next st of previous round, repeat to end, sl st to first hdc.
With yarn color A, work as follows:
Round 6: ch 2 (doesn't count as hdc), *hdc (yarn over hook, then insert hook into a strand of the last hdc of previous round and a strand of the next hdc to make hdc, (watch the video below), hdc into next st, repeat to end, sl st to first hch.
For 6-12 months size, repeat round 3. Cut yarn and weave in loose ends.
For Toddler- Child size and Adult size, repeat rounds 3-6 once more, then repeat round 3. Cut yarn and weave in loose ends.
