I've knitted it in three sizes so that it fits all family. This pattern is beginner-friendly, fun to follow, and full of personality. Materials:
- Suggested yarn: Alize Burcum Classic, (100% acrylic, 3.5 oz (100 g), 230 yards (210 m):
- 2-3 years: one skein each of Dark Grey (196) (referred to as color A), White (55), White (55), nutmeg (408), and Dark Brown (493).
- 4-6 years: one skein each of Light grey (208) (referred to as color A), White (55), Red (106), Brown (239), and Dark Brown (493).
- 7-10 years: one skein each of Light grey (208) (referred to as color A), White (55), Red (106), Powder Pink (161), and Dark Brown (493).
- Circular knitting needles, 16" (40 cm) long, sizes US 7 (4.5 mm) and US 8 (5 mm).
- Double pointed needles (DPNs) set, size US 8 (5 mm).
- Tapestry needle.
- Ring stitch marker.
- Beads: 6 (7, 8) black 0.16" (4 mm), 6 (7, 8) red 0.2" (5 mm), 6 (7, 8) yellow 0.3" (8 mm).
- 2-3 years: head circumference = 19" - 19.7" (48 - 50 cm).
- 4-6 years: head circumference = 19.7" - 20.5" (50 - 52 cm).
- 7-10 years: head circumference = 20.5" - 21.25" (52 - 54 cm).
Gauge: 17 sts and 22 rounds = 4"x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) in stockinette stitch and US 8 (5 mm) knitting needles.
Yardage:
- 2-3 years: 120 - 125 yards (110 - 115 m), approx.
- 4-6 years: 140 - 130 yards (130 - 135 m), approx.
- 7-10 years: 170 - 175 yards (155 - 160 m), approx.
- st: stitch.
- sts: stitches.
- k: knit.
- p: purl.
- k2tog: knit two stitches together.

Instructions:
With color (A) yarn and circular knitting needles US 7 (4.5 mm), cast on 72 (84, 96) sts. Join in the round. Don't know how to join in the round? here is a short tutorial on how to do it (from 0:26 - 1:15 min):
Put a ring stitch marker at the beginning of rounds, work as follows:
Rib round: k 1, p 1, repeat to end.
Repeat the rib round 5 (6, 7) more times. Cut yarn (A), bind on White yarn and repeat rib round twice. Change to circular knitting needles size US 8 (5 mm) and work the pattern as shown in the chart, cut off all color yarn.
With yarn (A), knit 4 (8, 10) rounds.
Decreasing rounds:
Round 1: k2tog, k 10 sts, repeat to end. [66 (77, 88) sts]
Rounds 2, 4, 6, 8: k to end.
Round 3: k2tog, k 9, repeat to end. [60 (70, 80) sts]
Round 5: k2tog, k 8, repeat to end. [54 (63, 72) sts]
Round 7: k2tog, k 7, repeat to end. [48 (54, 64) sts]
Note: change to DPNs when needed.
For size 2-3 years:
Round 9: k2tog, k 6, repeat to end. (42 sts)
Round 10: k2tog, k 5, repeat to end. (36 sts)
Round 11: k2tog, k 4, repeat to end. (30 sts)
Round 12: k2tog, k 3, repeat to end. (24 sts)
Round 13: k2tog, repeat to end. (12 sts)
For size 4-6 years:
Round 9: k2tog, k 6, repeat to end. (49 sts)
Round 10: k to end.
Round 11: k2tog, k 5, repeat to end. (42 sts)
Round 12: k2tog, k 4, repeat to end. (35 sts)
Round 13: k2tog, k 3, repeat to end. (28 sts)
Round 14: k2tog, repeat to end. (14 sts)
For size 7-10 years:
Round 9: k2tog, k 6, repeat to end. (56 sts)
Round 10: k to end.
Round 11: k2tog, k 5, repeat to end. (48 sts)
Round 12: k to end.
Round 13: k2tog, k 4, repeat to end. (40 sts)
Round 14: k2tog, k 3, repeat to end. (32 sts)
Round 15: k2tog, k 2, repeat to end. (24 sts)
Round 16: k2tog, k 1, repeat to end. (16 sts)
Round 17: k2tog, repeat to end. (8 sts)
For all sizes: cut the yarn, leaving a 6" (15 cm) tail. Thread the tail through all stitches, pull tight to close, and secure. Weave in the loose ends.
Sew the black, red and yellow beads as shown in the video.
With any two yarn that you've used, make a 3" (7.5 cm) pom-pom and attach it securely to the top of the hat. Steam well.
