Picnic Spring Jacket

Important notice: This written pattern has been reviewed and updated on December 7th, 2020. Two new sizes (small and medium) have also been added.

This Jacket was designed and made for a dear friend of mine. She is tall and full-figured, so sometimes it's hard for her to find a jacket of suitable size, in a model and color that she likes. So she and I sat down, took measurements and designed one ourselves. I hope she likes it when she gets to wear it, since the corona-virus situation made it difficult for us to get in touch. Yarn: Nako Vizon: (100% premium acrylic, 3.53 Oz (100 g), 213 yds (195 m): color no. 23520:

Size S: 8 skeins.
Size M: 8 skeins.
Size L: 9 skeins.
Size XL: 9 skeins.
Size 2XL: 10 skeins.
Size 3XL: 10 skeins.

Size U.S. 9 (5.5 mm) knitting needles and circular knitting needles 40" (100 cm) long.

Tapestry needle.

5 buttons, 1.2" (3 cm) in diameter.

Ring stitch markers.

Measurements:

Gauge:

20 sts and 26 rows = 4"x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) in Hurdle knit pattern (hkp).

Yardage:

Size S: 1500 - 1550 yards (1370 - 1400 m), approx.
Size M: 1600 - 1650 yards (1450 - 1500 m), approx.
Size L: 1700 - 1750 yards (1550 - 1600 m), approx.
Size XL: 1850 - 1900 yards (1750 - 1800 m), approx.
Size 2XL: 1900 - 19 50 yards (1800 - 1850 m), approx.
Size 3XL: 2025 - 2075 yards (1850 - 1900 m), approx.

Knitting Terms

st = stitch.

sts = stitches.

k = knit.

p = purl.

ssk = slip slip knit 2 sts together through back loops.

m 1 = make one stitch increase.

beg = beginning.

srp = Simple ribs pattern.

hkp = Hurdle knit pattern.

stm = stitch marker.

RS = right side.

WS = wrong side.

Patterns:

Simple Ribs Pattern (srp):

Row 1: k 1, p 1.

Row 2: knit the knit stitch and purl the purl stitch.

Hurdle Knit Pattern (hkp):

Rows 1 and 2: k all sts.

Row 3: k 1, p 1.

Row 4: knit the knit stitch and purl the purl stitch.

Instructions:

BACK:

Cast on 96(106-116-126-136-146) sts, work 12 rows in srp.

Work hkp until back measures 50(50-50-60-60-60) cm from beg, and ending with the fourth row of hkp.

Shape Raglan Armholes:

Bind off 6(8-12-14-16-20) sts at the beg of the next 2 rows. 84(90-92-98-104-106) sts

Decrease Rows:

Row 1: k 2, ssk, work hkp to last 4 sts, k2tog, k 2.

Row 2: p 3, work hkp to last 3 sts, p 3.

Repeat these 2 rows until 36(36-36-40-40-40) sts are left, bind off all sts. back measures 67(69-71-83-85-87) cm from beg.

RIGHT FRONT:

Cast on 58(63-68-73-78-83) sts, work 12 rows in srp.

*Row (RS): k 16(16-16-20-20-20) sts, put a stm, hkp to end.

Buttonhole Row: hkp to stm, k 7(7-7-8-8-8) sts, make a 3 sts wide buttonhole, k to end.*

Continue to work srp on 16(16-16-20-20-20) sts before the stm, and hkp on the rest of sts. Repeat between * * after every 6(6-6-8-8-8) repetitions of hkp.

Work until the piece measures 50(50-50-60-60-60) cm from beg, and ending with the first row of hkp.

Shape Raglan Armholes:

Bind off 6(8-12-14-16-20) sts at beg of the next row, hkp to stm, srp to end. 52(53-56-57-62-63) sts.

Decrease Rows:

Row 1: srp to stm, hkp to last 4 sts, k2tog, k 2.

Row 2: p 3, hkp to stm, srp to end.

Repeat rows (1-2) until 28(28-28-30-30-30) sts are left and the piece measures 67(69-71-83-85-87) cm from beg. Mark end of last row for beg of neck extension. Work srp to stm, and hkp the rest of sts until neck extension measures 12(12-12-14-14-14) above marker, end on WS. Bind off.

LEFT FRONT:

Cast on 58(63-68-73-78-83) sts, work 12 rows in srp.

**Row (RS): hkp to last 16(16-16-20-20-20) sts, put a stm, k to end.

Row (WS): k to stm, hkp to end. **

Continue to work hkp until stm, and srp on the rest 16(16-16-20-20-20) sts. Repeat between ** ** after every 6(6-6-8-8-8) repetitions of hkp.

Work until the piece measures 50(50-50-60-60-60) cm from beg, and ending with the fourth row of hkp.

Shape Raglan Armholes:

Bind off 6(8-12-14-16-20) sts at beg of the next row, hkp to stm, srp to end. 50(53-55-57-60-63) sts.

Decrease Rows:

Row 1: k 2, ssk, hkp to stm, srp to end.

Row 2: srp to stm, hkp to last 3 sts, p 3.

Repeat rows (1-2) until 28(28-28-30-30-30) sts are left and the piece measures 67(69-71-83-85-87) cm from beg. Mark end of last row for beg of neck extension. Work hkp to stm, and srp the rest of sts until neck extension measures 12(12-12-14-14-14) above marker, end on WS. Bind off.

SLEEVES:

Cast on 47(49-53-55-59-61) sts, work 12 rows in srp, then work hkp for the rest of sleeve.

Increase sleeves sides:

After 4 rows in hkp, Increase one st at the beginning and the end of the fifth row, then every fourth row 2(3-5-8-10-12) times, then every eighth row 2(3-5-6-6-8) times.

When the sleeve measures 46(46-46-48-48-48) cm from beg and ending with fourth row of hkp, work as follows. 57(63-75-85-93-103) sts

Shape Raglan Cap:

Bind off 6(8-12-14-16-20) sts at beg of the next 2 rows.
45(47-51-53-61-63) sts

Decrease as follows:

Row 1: k 2, ssk, hkp to last 4 sts, k2tog, k 2.

Row 2: p 3, hkp to last 3 sts, p 3.

Repeat this decrease pattern every fourth row 2(5-6-3-4-4) times, and every second row until 7 sts are left, work as follows:

Row 3: k 2, k3tog, k 2.

Row 4: p 5.

Cast off all sts.

Assembly:

Sew raglan sleeve caps to raglan armholes. Sew the side and sleeve seams. Sew bound-off edges of the neck extensions together. Sew the inner edges of the neck extensions to the back neck edge with the seam in the center. Sew buttons.

Cool Stripes Hat

Hello friends! I know it's almost April, but I am still designing and adding to my February Head Wear Series. I would like to thank everyone who made one of the hats and shared that with me on Ravelry, Instagram or via Email. I feel very motivated now, and I still have many ideas to share.

This hat is very easy to make, I used a simplified version of the brioche pattern (I call it the Pseudo Brioche) to make it. This hat also comes in two sizes (see measurement details below). I hope you give it a try and make it today. stay home and stay safe everyone!

Skill level: Easy

Materials:

Yarn: Alize Lanagold Classic: (51% acrylic, 49% wool, 100 g/ 3.53 Oz, 240 m/ 262 yds): Flame Red, color no. 601: 1 skein.

Circular knitting needles 40 cm/ 16" long, size 6 mm/ US 10.

Tapestry needle.

Ring stitch marker.

Head circumference:

Size S/M: 54 cm– 57 cm (21.25"– 22.5").
Size L: 58 cm– 60 cm (22.8"– 23.65").

Gauge: 20 sts and 20 rounds = 4"x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) in simple ribs pattern.

Yardage:

Size S/M: 100– 110 m/ 110– 120 yds.
Size L: 110– 120 m/ 120– 130 yds.

knitting Terms:

k = knit.

p = purl.

k2tog = knit 2 stitches together.

Instructions:

Cast on 76 (84) sts, join in the round. Don't know how to join in the round? here is a short tutorial on how to do it (from 0:26 - 1:15 min):

Put the ring stitch marker at the beginning of rounds.

Round: k 1, p 1, repeat to end.

Repeat this row 8 times.

Knit 4 Rows, then work Pseudo Brioche Pattern:

Round 1: k 1, p 1, Repeat to end.

Round 2: *Insert the right needle into the stitch one round below, yarn over to knit the stitch, slide the stitch off the left needle, p 1, Repeat from * to end.

Repeat these 2 rows 7 times.

Knit 4 rounds and repeat Pseudo Brioche Pattern (14 rows) once more.

Decreasing rows:

Round 1: *k2tog, k 17 (19) , repeat from *to end. 72 (80) sts.

Round 2: *k2tog, k 7 (8), repeat from * to end. 64 (72) sts.

Round 3: *k2tog, k 6 (7), repeat from * to end. 56 (64) sts.

Round 4: *k2tog, k 5 (6), repeat from * to end. 48 (56) sts.

Round 5: *k2tog, k 4 (5), repeat from * to end. 40 (48) sts.

Round 6: *k2tog, k 3 (4), repeat from * to end. 32 (40) sts.

Round 7: *k2tog, k 2 (3), repeat from * to end. 24 (32) sts.

Round 8: *k2tog, k 1 (2), repeat from * to end. 16 (24) sts.

Round 8 is the last for S/M size.

Work last round for L size:

Round 9: *k2tog, k 1, repeat from * to end. 16 sts.

Cut yarn after leaving a 15 cm / 6" long yarn tail. Pull it through all sts and tighten tog. Weave in loose ends.

Follow My Lines Shawl

Hi Everyone! So, A little backstory about this shawl: I had this yarn for more than a year and a half, tried some ideas using it, But none of them were any good, and the yarn went back on my shelf. This month, I am into knitting lines, ribs and stripes, and got inspired by them, so here we are. Just follow my lines to get this shawl. I hope you try it, it is really easy to make if you follow the instructions with patience. Good luck!

Skill level: Intermediate

Materials:

Yarn: Alize Happy Baby Soft, 65% acrylic, 35% polyamide, 3.53 oz (100 g), 361 yards (330 m): in the color "Orange" 483: 3 skeins.

Knitting needles, US 7 (size 4.5 mm).

Tapestry needle.

Measurements:

Width: 73" (184 cm), approx.
Height: 18" (45 cm), approx.

Gauge: 16 sts and 24 rows = 4"x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) in stockinette stitch.

Yardage: 810- 820 yards (740- 750 m).

Knitting Terms:

k: knit.

p: purl.

p1tbl: purl st through back loop.

k2tog: knit 2 stitches together.

ssk: slip, slip, knit the 2 sts together through back loops.

p2togtbl: purl 2 sts together through back loops.

Instructions:

Cast on 3 sts, knit 7 rows, pick up 2 sts from one side of rows, and 3 sts from bottom. (8 sts).

Work next (wrong side row):

Right Diagonal Stitch pattern and increasing rows:

Row 1: k 3, p 2, k 3.

Row 2: k 3, yo, (k2tog but do not drop stitches from left-hand needle, k the first st, slip both together from the needle), k 3.

Row 3: k 3, p to last 3 sts, k 3.

Row 4: k 3, yo, (k2tog but do not drop stitches from left-hand needle, k the first st, slip both together from the needle), k 4.

Row 5: repeat row 3.

Row 6: k 3, yo, *(k2tog but do not drop stitches from left-hand needle, k the first st, slip both together from the needle), repeat from * to last 3 sts, k 3.

Row 7: repeat row 3.

Row 8: k 3, yo, *(k2tog but do not drop stitches from left-hand needle, k the first st, slip both together from the needle), repeat from * to last 4 sts, k 4.

Row 9: repeat row 3.

Repeat these for rows (6 to 9) until work measures 92 cm/ 36.5", or as long as you prefer, and ending with row 7.

Work next as follows (right side row):

Row 1: k 3, bring yarn to front (as to purl), ss 1, return yarn to back, turn the work and work these 4 sts as follows:

Row 2: ss 1 while yarn in front of work, bring yarn to back, k 3.

Repeat these 2 rows three times.

Left Diagonal stitch and Decreasing rows:

Row 1: k 3, yo, k 1, *switch the next 2 sts on left needle by any method you prefer putting the first st over the second, k these 2 switched sts, repeat from * to last 4 sts, k 4.

Row 2: k 3, *p 1, p1tbl, repeat from * to last 6 sts, p2togtbl, p 1, k 3.

Row 3: k 3, yo, ssk, *switch the next 2 sts on left needle by any method you prefer putting the first st over the second, k these 2 switched sts, repeat from * to last 3 sts, k 3.

Row 4: k 3, *p1tbl, p 1, repeat from * to last 6 sts, p2togtbl, p 1, k 3.

Row 5: k 3, yo, ssk, *switch the next 2 sts on left needle by any method you prefer putting the first st over the second, k these 2 switched sts, repeat from * to last 4 sts, k 4.

Row 6: repeat row 2.

Repeat rows (3 to 6) until 9 sts left and finishing row 4. work as follows:

Row 1: k 3, yo, ssk, k 4.

Row 2: k 3, p2togtbl, k 3.

Row 3: k 3, ssk, k 3.

Row 4: k 3, k2tog, k 2.

Work next as follows (right side row):

Row 1: k 3, bring yarn to front (as to purl), ss 1, return yarn to back, turn the work and work these 4 sts as follows:

Row 2: ss 1 while yarn in front of work, bring yarn to back, k 3.

Repeat these 2 rows 3 times more.

Now you can either cast off these 6 sts and sew first 3 with last 3 sts, or you can use the Kitchener method to join them. Weave in loose ends. Block if needed.

Carrot Cake Beanie

I thoroughly liked the reversible chevron pattern when I first came upon it, but I have yet to try it in any design I've made. The reason was that I saw it as complete pattern, with little room for me to improve on, or add my own touch. Also, many others have already made several nice designs out of it. So when I tried to make a beanie from this dotted tweed yarn that I had at hand, I decided to give this pattern a try. After several trials, I ended up with a reversible beanie that looks beautiful worn on both sides. It's very simple to make, just follow the (k, p) rounds and add the (k3tog) to carve it up.

Skill level: Intermediate

Materials:

Yarn: Alize Borcum Nokta, 100% acrylic, 3.53 oz (100 g), 230 yards (210 m), in the color 5887: 1 skein.
Circular knitting needles 16" (40 cm) long, sizes US 4 (3.5 mm) and US 8 (5 mm).
Tapestry needle.
Ring stitch marker.

Measurements: One size; A= 12" (30 cm), B= 9.5" (24 cm), approx.

Gauge: 18 sts and 32 rounds = 4"x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) in (p 1,k 1) ribs pattern and US 4 (3.5 mm) knitting needles.

Yardage: 200 - 205 m/ 220- 225 yds.

knitting Terms:

st: stitch.
sts: stitches.
k: knit.
p: purl.
m1: make one st increase.
s2s1ktog: knit 2 sts together, slip third one knit-wise, pass the knitted st over the slipped one (centered double decrease).

Instructions:

With US 4 (3.5 mm) circular knitting needles, cast on 80 sts, join in the round. Don't know how to join in the round? here is a short tutorial on how to do it (from 0:26 - 1:15 min):

Put a ring stitch marker at the beginning of rounds.

Rib round: (p 1, k 1), repeat to end.

Repeat rib round eight times.

Change to US 8 (5 mm) knitting needles and work the following:

Increasing round: [(p 1, m1, k 1, m1) twice, p 1, (k 1, m1, p 1, m1) twice, k 1], repeat between [ ] to end. (144 sts)

Reversible chevron pattern:

rounds 1 - 4: [(p 2, k 2) twice, p 1, (k 2, p 2) twice, k 1], repeat between [ ] to end.

rounds 5 - 8: p 1, *k 2, p 2, k 2, p 3, repeat from * to last 8 sts, (k 2, p 2) twice.

rounds 9 - 12: [(k 2, p 2) twice, k 1, (p 2, k 2) twice, p 1], repeat between [ ] to end.

round 13 - 16: k 1, *p 2, k 2, p 2, k 3, repeat from * to last 8 sts, (p 2, k 2) twice.

Repeat rounds 1 - 12 once.

Decreasing rounds:

round 1: k 1, *p 2, k 2, p 2, s2s1ktog, p 2, k 2, p 2, k 3, repeat from * to last 17 sts, p 2, k 2, p 2, s2s1ktog, p 2, k 2, p 2, k 2. (128 sts)

Simple Braids Hat

Greetings my fellow Knitters! this is the third project in my February head wear series, and it incorporates the simple braid pattern. I made it available in three different sizes (see measurements below), and experienced knitting it in multiple colors to show how the pattern would look. So, I hope you will find a combination that will suit you.

Materials:

Yarn:
- Size S: Alize Lanagold Classic, 51% acrylic, 49% wool, 3.53 oz (100 g), 262 yards (240 m), in the color "Flame Red" 903: 1 skein.
- Size M: Nako Vizon, 100% premium acrylic, 3.53 oz (100 g), 213 yards (195 m), in the color "Mallard Green" 181: 1 skein.
- Size L: Nako Vizon, 100% premium acrylic, 3.53 oz (100 g), 213 yards (195 m), in the color "White" 208: 1 skein.
Circular knitting needles, 16" (40 cm) long, size US 8 (5 mm).
Tapestry needle.
Ring stitch marker.
