Hashtag Jacket

Hi everyone, and Happy New Year! knitting with cotton yarn can be a challenge since it lacks elasticity a little bit. When I ordered Paintbox yarn, I was eager to get my hand on this beautiful yarn pack I found online, a palette of four colors. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that the yarn I purchased was made from cotton, so It took me a while to figure out what it would be suitable for. I finally decided to turn this yarn into a spring jacket. First, I decided that this palette needed a primary color added to it for my new project, and black yarn seemed to be the right choice, from there I got to work on the design.
As my followers know, I'm an old fan of mosaic patterns, so I chose the hashtag pattern for my jacket. I think it’s both beautiful and intricate looking. I am very satisfied with the final product, and I think it would be a wonderful piece to wear next spring. When writing the instructions, I've tried to make them as clear and simple as possible, so I hope you have fun making this jacket. I also made a matching slouchy from the remaining yarn, which I will post later. Another surprise accessory is still in the making, so stay tunedJanuary 22nd, 2021 update: I've posted the matching slouchy and mittens. Click on the links below to check it out!
Stay safe and healthy my fellow knitters and crocheters, and I hope you have a wonderful new year!

With color A, and 4.5 needles, work Hashtag Pattern once in first 38(42-46) sts.

Repeat the 24 rows of the Hashtag Pattern using yarn B.

Neck Shape:

With yarn C, repeat 24 rows of Hashtag Pattern and make neck shape at the same time as follows:

3(4-4) sts decrease at the beginning of 5th row.

2(2-2) sts decrease at the beginning of 7th row.

1(1-1) st decrease at the beginning of 9th and 11th rows alternately.

Finish the Hashtag Pattern. With black yarn knit 0(2-2) rows. Bind off all 26(29-32) sts, leaving 12" (30 cm) of yarn to sew the shoulder seams.

Sleeves:

Notes:

  • When knitting the colored stripes on the RS, knit the first stitch using the black yarn together with the colored one to keep it coming up and, so you don't have to cut and bind it when knitting every black yarn stripe.
  • After finishing every colored stripe, cut the yarn, leaving 4" (10 cm) of yarn to sew the seam of each stripe with its own color.

With black yarn and 4 mm needles, cast on 48(52-52) sts. work as follows:

Ribs Row: k 3, *p 2, k 2, repeat from * to last 3 sts, p 3.

Repeat ribs row 17 times. Change to 4.5 mm needles and knit 1(3-3) row(s).

Stripes pattern:

With A yarn knit eight rows, with black yarn work next 2 rows as follows:

Row 1: (k 1, p 1) into the first st, k to last st, (k 1, p 1) into the last st.

Row 2: k to end.

With B yarn knit eight rows, with black yarn repeat the increasing rows.

With C yarn knit eight rows, with black yarn repeat the increasing rows.

With D yarn knit eight rows, with black yarn repeat the increasing rows.

Repeat the stripes pattern 3 times, but don't increase in last rows knitted with black yarn. Instead, knit 2(4-4) rows.

Bind off all sts using stretchy method, leaving 18" (45 cm) of yarn for sewing the sleeve in place. You can watch my tutorial video for the stretchy bind off method here:

Assembly:

Sew shoulders seams. Sew side seams of sleeves leaving the upper color stripe to sew with the body underarm. Sew sleeve with sleeve opening in body piece.

Hood:

From RS with black yarn and 4.5 mm circular needles, pick up 26(29-32) sts from right side neck, 31(37,43) sts from back neck and 26(29-32) sts from left side neck. 83(95-107) sts

Knit next row as follows:

Increase Row: k 2(3-4) sts, *m 1, k 5, repeat to last 1(2-3) sts, m 1, k to end. 100(114-128) sts

Knit until the hood measures 12(13-13)" [30(3-33) cm] from increase row.

Fold the hood double and sew together at the top, I've used Kitchener sewing method to get a neat look.

Note: As I was in the process of designing the jacket, I didn't follow the exact steps I mentioned above in the assembly of the jacket pieces, and knitted the hood part before attaching the sleeves.

Right front Band:

From RS and with black yarn and 4 mm needles, pick up 18(20-20) sts from bottom black stripe, 18 sts from each hashtag pattern stripe, 2 sts before first hood row.

Ribs Row: p 2, k 2 to last 0(2-2) sts, p 2.

Repeat ribs row 3 times.

Buttonholes row: 12(14-14) sts in ribs pattern, *k2tog, yo, 16 sts in ribs pattern, repeat from * to last 8(10-10) sts, p2tog, yo, 6 sts in ribs pattern.

Repeat ribs row 3 times, bind off all sts.

Left front band:

From RS and with black yarn and 4 mm needles, pick up 2 sts under first hood row, 18 sts from each hashtag pattern stripe, and 18(20-20) sts from bottom black stripe.

Ribs Row: k 2, p 2 to 0(2-2) sts, k 2.

Repeat ribs row 7 times. Bind off all sts.

Weave in loose ends. Sew buttons in place (as you can see in the image below, I used the colored yarn to sew them).

Christmas Snow Shawl

Hello friends! In a few days, we'll be saying goodbye to 2020, which was a roller-coaster of a year. For me, it pushed my work towards limitless horizons. In addition to designing, I went back to my old posts and reviewed them, in response to many of you who pointed out mistakes, or gave suggestions to improve the quality of the instructions, so thank you all so much.

For this shawl I used the mosaic pattern, which I first saw on Pinterest a couple of years ago. I really liked it and worked hard to learn how to knit it. You can see my previous pieces like Candy Cane BeanieParachutes Cowl and Christmas Lights Hat and observe my journey to decipher and tame this technique to make my own unique patterns. As for the yarn, I had an old scarf I've made for Christmas that badly needed an update, and when I gave it a second glance I decided that there was no saving it, so I undid it and used the yarn to make this shawl. As you can see in the images, this piece features three types of snowflakes falling over a row of Christmas trees. I tried many versions of this shawl until I was satisfied, and I really like this final result, it's very beautiful and you just want to follow the snow with your eyes as it falls down. I hope you give it a try and make it for yourself or your loved ones.

Let us look forward to the new year and try harder to make it better. May your wishes be achieved in the best way. With my last post for 2020, I wish you all a healthy and safe 2021. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Christmas Holly Scarf

Hi everyone, I wish you are all doing well during these hard times, and hope the new year bring us better days and accomplishments. During the last couple of months I started going over as many of my old designs/patterns as I can, either because they were not tested well, or they don't meet the new standards that I have set for my work. This Christmas scarf is an old pattern I posted years ago. I have rewritten the instruction and made the steps more simple and clear to follow.

Making this scarf is simple, the only challenging part for you might be knitting the leaves, and sewing them in place, on the other hand, making the pompoms is lots of fun, so hopefully that gets you excited to make this wonderful scarf. Get set, It's time to start making gifts, so I wish you all the best, and Merry Christmas!
