Sunset Mirage Striped Skirt

Hi knitters! as July is about to end, it is time to start thinking about the new outfits of the coming fall and winter. I am proud to present this skirt as a new addition to my skirt design line, which you loved many of them, such as Medallion skirt, Big pockets skirt, bold stripes skirt among many others. there are new features that make this skirt unique; it is long, it is worked down top, the transition of hot stripes of colors down up, and the weaved in belt that its both sides end in braids in front. The pattern is easy to follow and it just gets narrower as it goes up, you just need to change to shorter circular needles to make work easier, and needless to suggest that you can choose your own colors. Have a nice time knitting this skirt!

Instructions:

With US 8 (5 mm) 40" (100 cm) long circular knitting needles, and brown yarn, cast on 360 (432, 504) sts using a stretchy method and join in the round. Don't know how to join in the round? here is a short tutorial on how to do it (from 0:26 - 1:15 min):

Put a ring stitch marker at the beginning of the round, then work as follows:

First stripe:

Round 1: *k 1, (yo, ssk) eight times, yo, k3tog1, yo, (k2tog, yo) eight times, repeat from * to end.

Round 2 and every even number round: k to end.

Round 3: k 1, yo, k 16, k3tog1, k 16, yo, repeat to end.

Repeat round 3 four more times. The first stripe is complete. 360 (432, 504) sts

Repeat the first stripe one more time. Cut brown yarn and bind on light brown yarn.

Transitional Stripe 1:

Round 5: *k 1, (yo, ssk) five times, (yo, sssk) twice, yo, k3tog1, yo, (k3tog, yo) twice, (k2tog, yo) five times, repeat from * to end.

Round 7: k 1, yo, k 14, k3tog1, k 14, yo, repeat to end.

Repeat round 7 three more times. Transitional stripe 1 is complete. 320 (384, 448) sts.

Second stripe:

Round 9: *k 1, (yo, ssk) seven times, yo, k3tog1, yo, (k2tog, yo) seven times, repeat from * to end.

Repeat round 7 four times. The second stripe is complete.

Repeat the second stripe one more time. Cut light brown yarn and bind on orange yarn.

Transitional Stripe 2:

Bind off Round: Use any stretchy method you prefer for the bind off round. You can watch my tutorial video for the stretchy bind off method here:

Weave in loose ends. Steam well to flatten and relax the piece, especially the hem and the waist area. I found that steaming works better than wetting when it comes to synthetic yarns like acrylic, so keep in mind the type of yarn you are using and choose the best method to block it.

The weaved in belt:

  1. Cut thirty-six strands of cream yarn measuring 60" (66", 72") [150 (165, 185) cm] long. Divide them into 6 sets. Tie off the ends of each set to secure the strands together.
  2. Lay the skirt flatly. Note round 31 and its five repetitions. The belt will be weaved into these six rounds. The k 1 stitches and the yo on it sides create a "loop" through which the sets of strands will be threaded.
  3. Locate any k 1 of round 31. This will be the center of the back of the skirt. Pass the first set of strands into the yo on the left of the k 1, and pull it out through the yo on its right. Make sure to pull the set of strands half way through.
  4. Repeat step 1 by threading the remaining five sets around the k 1 of the repetitions of round 31 above.
  5. To create the "twisted look", take the right end of the sixth set and thread it around of the k 1 of round 31 (the one on the right of the k 1 you just worked on). Take the fifth set and thread it around the the k 1 of the round above it (the first repetition of round 31). Do the same for the remaining four sets.
  6. Continue threading the sets around the waist of the skirt by repeating step 5 three (four, five) times.
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the left side of the skirt. The column of k 1 sts at the center of the front is not used to hold the belt.
  8. Braid the remaining length of the six sets on each side loosely. Untie the ends of the sets, then tie them all together in one knot. Trim the ends.
