Net Weave Toque

Hello everyone! Now that spring is near, it's time to start working with lighter weight yarns and choose from the multitude of colors that fit the season. I'm working on many projects these days, most of which are finished and scheduled to be posted soon. This toque design is the first of a two-piece set that includes it and a nice scarf. The pattern is a very simple; an "eight stitches by eight rounds" lace square pattern, that could be worked into many different designs, and I will be showing you one way of incorporating it in this post. This toque comes in two sizes, Size S for toddlers and Size M/L for adults. It can fit most heads owing to the ribs that add stretchiness to it. I hope you all enjoy making it, and I wish you the warmest of days.

Put a ring stitch marker at the beginning of rounds, work as follows:

Rib round: k 2, p 2, repeat to end.

Repeat the rib round 7 more times. Switch to size 8 (5 mm) circular knitting needles while repeating the rib round one more time, then work as follows:

General Pattern:

Round 2: *k 8, (k 2, p 2) twice, repeat from * to end.

Round 3: *(yo, ssk) four times, (k 2, p 2) twice, repeat from * to end.

Round 4: repeat round 2.

Rounds 13-16: repeat rounds 9-12.

Repeat rounds 1- 8 one more time, then repeat rib round eight times.

Decreasing rounds:

Rounds 2-3: k the knit sts and o the purl sts.

Round 4: k 2, p 1, k 2, p 1, k 2, p 1, k2tog, ssk, p 1, repeat to end. (60, 72 sts)

Rounds 5-6: repeat round 2.

Round 7: k2tog, p 1, repeat to end. (40, 48 sts)

Round 8-9: repeat round 2.

Change to DPNs set.

Round 10: sl st, *k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k the last st with the first sl st together. (20, 24 sts)

Round 11: k2tog, repeat to end. (10, 12 sts)

Cut yarn, leaving a 6" (15 cm) long yarn tail, pull it through all sts and tighten tog. Weave in loose ends.

  2. I'm JGM1970 on Ravelry if anyone wants to see it... the variegated yarn doesn't do the design full justice, though. :-)
