Wedges Round Cape

Hello, hope you all have nice and warm indoor days. I've been living in Amman, Jordan, for more than a decade, and here, there aren't many choices of yarn. So when I found DMC yarn in my neighborhood's craft's store, I bought it at once.
I love the violet and light yellow combination, and since I wanted to make a project using a pattern that includes short rows method, here is what I've made, hope you like it.

Skill level: Easy

Materials

DMC, Knitty Extra Value 10; 3.5 oz/ 100 g, 90 yds/ 82 m approx.
100% acrylic.
Violet, 884 (A).
Light Yellow, 993 (B).

Size U.S. 15 (10 mm) knitting needles.
Tapestry needle.
18" /46 cm open- ended zipper, T5 6mm, (I bought two zippers plastic moulded, matching the yarns' colors, and used one piece of each).

knitting Terms
k = knit
p = purl
sl st = slip stitch
yo = yarn over

Notes:
  • The instructions contain numbers for different sizes; the (40-42) and (44- 46) sizes numbers are written between brackets.
  • You can make a mono color cape, just check the yardage in materials schedule to know the yarn quantity needed.

Measurements:

  • 18" /46 cm height,
  • 22.5" /57 cm (24"/61 cm, 25.5"/65 cm) around the neck.
  • 56.5"/143.5 cm, (60"/150 cm, 63.5"/156.5 cm) bottom circumference.

Gauge:
11 sts x 16 rows = 4" (10 cm)
in Single Rib Pattern.

Instructions:

With (A) yarn, cast on 46 sts (use a cast on method to get stretchy stitches). Follow the instructions in my tutorial video to learn how:

Knit four rows.

Wedges Pattern:

Row 1: k 10, (p 1, k 1) to end.
Row 2: sl st, (k 1, p 1) repeat 17 times, k 1, turn.
Row 3: yo, sl the first st purlwise, (k 1, p 1) to last st, k 1.
Row 4: sl st, (k 1, p 1) repeat 12 times, turn.
Row 5: yo, sl the first st knitwise, (p 1, k 1) to last st.
Row 6: sl st, (k 1, p 1) repeat 6 times, k 1, turn.
Row 7: yo, sl the first st purlwise, (k 1, p 1) to last st, k 1.
Row 8: k 14, k the next yo and st together through back loops, k 10, knit the next yo and st together through back loops, k 10, k the next yo and st together through back loops, k 10.
Rows 9-11: k all sts.

Repeat the wedges pattern 12 (13, 13) times, then repeat rows (1-8) once, bind on (B) yarn, and complete the pattern as follow:
Row 9: knit all in color (B).
Row 10: knit all in color (A), cut yarn (A).
Row 11: knit all in color (B).

Repeat the wedges pattern 4 (4, 5) times in color (B), knit one more row, bind off all stitches.

Sew zipper pieces on each side, you can use this method by Yarnspirations that I've found so helpful.

Jellyfish Cowl

I've made many cowls this season, for I've fallen in love with this elegant piece of accessories clothing. I know this cowl is made by many, and in many versions. I've just wanted to put my touch, which is the Picot Binding Off method.

Materials:

NAKO spaghetti Effect; 3.5 oz/ 100 g, 65.6 yds/ 60 m approx.
25% wool, 75% premium acrylic.
75532, 2 balls. (color A)
Antarctica 7653,  1 ball. (color B)
volcano 7794, 1 ball. (color C)

Note: I've used whole two balls of color A, and about 10 to 12 yds only of the other colors (B and C).

-Size U.S. 11 (8 mm) needles.

-Tapestry needle.

Yardage:

140- 150 yds/ 135- 145 m approx.

Level: Easy

Knitting Terms

k = knit
p = purl

Measurements:
12" (30.5 cm) long x 18" (46 cm) around (without wearing) .

Gauge:

10 sts x 16 rows = 4" (10 cm)
in Rib pattern used in this design.

Instructions:

With yarn A and circular needle, cast on 80 sts, join up the stitches to work in rounds, making sure not to twist them. Don't know how to join in the round? here is a short tutorial on how to do it (from 0:26 - 1:15 min):

Pattern row: k 2, p 2, repeat to end of row.

Color sequence
6 rows with color A
2 rows with color C
2 rows with color A
2 rows with color B
20 rows with color A
2 rows with color B
2 rows with color A
2 rows with color C
2 rows with color A

Picot Bind off method:

First, work another (k 2, p 2) row with color A , turn:
  1. cast on 2 stitches on left needle.
  2. bind off 4 stitches.
  3. move the one remaining stitch from right needle back to left.
Repeat the three steps binding off method to last stitch and keep it on right needle, insert the right needle to the first (bound off stitch), yarn over, pull loop and bind off the last stitch, cut yarn, weave in loose ends, turn the first third part of cowl outside.
