Little Puppy Blue Dress

Hello friends, I love C2C crochet, since it is easy to work, though using many colors could be troublesome, because I am too messy, and my yarns always get tangled up together, sometimes I spend hours getting them apart. And because I also love pixel art drawings, I save a lot of cute pictures of them on my Pinterest boards and on my PC.  So, I thought one day, why not merge a C2C piece into one of the dresses I make on my blog. And here comes the IDEA and the Puppy Dress.

I found this pixel art on Pinterest, but I couldn't find the original designer to give them credit.

To make this dress you must know how to use a sewing machine.
For the C2C pattern tutorial watch this video.

Level: intermediate

   Materials

  •        Yarn; Alize Diva silk effect, 100% microfiber acrylic, 100 g. / 350 mt. (3.5 0z. /383 yds), one skein of colors; cornflower 132, cream 01. Few meters of red 106, gray 355, and black 60.

  •        Tapestry needle
  •         Stitch marker

Front C2C Square:

Note: The C2C square is crocheted with cornflower yarn, its edging with cream yarn.
For the largest size (6 year), for the smaller two other sizes, cut one square border for the 5 year size, and 2 square border for size 4 year. (Follow the pattern)
When the C2C square is finished, it should measure 17X17 cm2 (19X19 cm2, 21X21 cm2).
Edging: follow the pattern I’ve drawn.

Back Square:

With cornflower color make a magic ring.
Round 1: ch 2 (don’t count as st), dc, *ch 1, 2 dc, repeat from * two more times, ch 1, dc, sl st to second ch of first ch2.
Round 2: ch 2 (counts as one dc from here on), *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the next ch 1 space, 2 dc. Repeat from * two more times, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the next ch 1 space, dc, sl st to second ch of first ch 2.
Round 3: ch 2, 2dc, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the next 2 ch space, dc in each 6 sts. Repeat two more times, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the next 2 ch space, 3 dc, sl st to second ch of first ch 2.
Round 4: ch 2, 4 dc, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the next 2 ch space, dc. Repeat two more times, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the next 2 ch space, 5 dc, sl st to second ch of first ch 2.
Work 11, (12, 13) more rounds, repeating the increase pattern, cut yarn. Now you get 19.6X19.6 cm2 (20.8X 20.8 cm2, 22X22 cm2) square.

To make the left under arm piece, bind on yarn (cornflower color) to center line st of the back square,
Row 1: ch 2, dc in every st to the corner of the square, dc in the 2ch space, turn.
Row 2: ch 2, dc in the same st, dc in each st to end of row, turn.
Repeat (row 2) 11 (12, 13) more times. Cut yarn leaving 30 cm (11”) for sewing.
Make the right under arm piece the same, on the other side.
Make the straps:
From upper side of the back square, on each corner, bind on yarn in the ch2 space
Row 1: ch 2, dc 9 (9, 11), in the next sts, turn.
Row 2: ch 2, dc in the same st, dc in each st to end of row, turn.
Repeat (row 2) 14 (16, 18) times, then make the button hole row.
Button hole row: Ch 2, dc in the next st, 3dc (3dc, 4 dc), ch 3, skip 3 sts, 3 dc (3 dc, 4 dc).
Last row: ch 2, dc in the next st, 2 dc (2 dc, 3 dc), 3 dc in the ch 3 space, dc (dc, 2 dc), 2dctog, cut yarn.

Back piece edging: follow the pattern.

Sew the under arm left and right extensions to front C2C square under the border edging.

Sew the buttons on the upper corners of the C2C square.

Sewing the skirt

Fold the cloth width wise, and cut to make 37x112 cm2 (39X112 cm2, 41X112 cm2) two pieces.
Sew alongside short edges.
Gather the upper edges to the width of the the yoke, sew them together.

Sew the skirt hem.

The hexagon unit:

Make 12 of each color
Round 1: any cotton yarn, and 3.5 mm hook, start a magic ring, ch 3 (counts as a dc), dc 11, Sl st into the 3rd ch of the first 3 chs.
(12 dc)

Round 2: ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in the same st, 2 dc into each st, sl st into the 3rd ch of the first 3 chs. (24 dc)

Round 3: ch 3 (counts as a dc), dc into the same st, *ch 2, 2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 sts, 2 dc in the next st*, repeat between ** till last 3 sts, ch 2, 2 dc in next st, dc in the last 2 sts, sl st into the 3rd ch of the first 3 chs, cut yarn, weave in thread.
Sew the granny squares together using red yarn (or the color you prefer that matches the cloth) as shown in the picture.

Edging:
With diva baby yarn, 3 mm hook, and Beginning at the 2 ch space of any two attached hexagons, with white yarn, bind thread on, (ch 1, sc, ch 3, sc) in the same 2 ch space, skip next st, *(sc, ch 3, sc) in the next st, repeat from * 2 more times, (sc, ch 3, sc, ch 5, sc, ch 3, sc) in 2 ch space that is not attached to other hexagon, (sc, ch 3, sc) in the next st, repeat 2 more times, **(sc, ch 3, sc) in the next 2 ch space, repeat from ** one more time.
Work this edging pattern along two arm lines, neckline, and bottom yoke perimeter.

Sewing the skirt
Fold the cloth length wise to form a 50 x 50 two plies square, sew along back edges, make 3 pleads at the center front matching the pattern of the center front yoke, attach yoke to skirt using enough pins, sew.
Sew the skirt hem.
Notes:
  • Because I used cotton threads, I didn’t need to block the yoke.
  • After I finished the dress, I noticed that the skirt should be wider, you can do that by making back pleads also, and in that case the dimensions of the cloth will be 50 cm x 130 cm.
  • Each pleat is 10 cm width.

Enjoy making it, and enjoy watching a lovely child wearing it.
Could you please share with me your opinion, your version of the dress, and any notes or corrections?
Thank you
