Magic Baby Bib

Well friends, it seems that I’ve been guided to crochet more pieces, for I still have Alize cotton baby yarn. So to complete the baby set, I decided to make a nice handy bib with the same magic square pattern .

Magic Square Baby Blanket

From time to time, I sit down between large projects, experimenting with new small crochet pieces, such as coasters and granny squares. Sometimes nothing interesting comes out, but I think, this time, it really turned out well. A magic granny square that turns from a circle shape to almost a square, without the usual angles made of a number of chain stitches.

Since I really liked this magic granny square, I decided to come up with a project made of a number of it. I found this nice Alize cotton baby yarn, I chose two pastel colors, because they are my favorite, and here it is.

Skill level: Easy

I am really glad to announce that this post was featured in AllFreeCrochet's list of the top 100 crochet patterns of 2019. Click the image to view the full list:

Cut yarn, weave in loose ends and block if needed.

Joining the granny squares:

Note: Because the square I made has round corners, I had to come up with a flexible joining method to make the blanket look nice and tidy. I should thank  The Patch Work Heart for the inspiration. I used their method, but made minor changes to suit my granny squares' round corners.

Follow the pattern below:

First row: start making the roller coaster row from the corner of a granny square and follow the arrows I've drawn, or the full instructions in the link. But make the numbers of chain stitches I mentioned at the corners.

- Remember when you finish this row, all the granny squares will be attached and the rectangle blanket is complete.

- Only the corners attachments need care

Second row: it is simpler, and goes only around the border of  the blanket, just follow the drawn pattern, or you can make your own design.

Joining the hexagons:
Join as you go method.

For the first hexagon: standing sc in any ch 4, ch 4, sc in the next ch 4, continue this way, sl st into the first sc. (the first hexagon is the purple one in the chart)

For the rest of the hexagons: when you reach the side that you want to join, ch 2, make a sl st into the ch 4 (of the hexagon you want to join it to), ch 2, sc into the next ch 4 of the hexagon.

When you are joining the corner of one hexagon to two other hexagons corners already joined together, make a sl st in the sl st previously made.

Little Puppy Blue Dress

Hello friends, I love C2C crochet, since it is easy to work, though using many colors could be troublesome, because I am too messy, and my yarns always get tangled up together, sometimes I spend hours getting them apart. And because I also love pixel art drawings, I save a lot of cute pictures of them on my Pinterest boards and on my PC.  So, I thought one day, why not merge a C2C piece into one of the dresses I make on my blog. And here comes the IDEA and the Puppy Dress.

I found this pixel art on Pinterest, but I couldn't find the original designer to give them credit.

To make this dress you must know how to use a sewing machine.
For the C2C pattern tutorial watch this video.

Level: intermediate

   Materials

  •        Yarn; Alize Diva silk effect, 100% microfiber acrylic, 100 g. / 350 mt. (3.5 0z. /383 yds), one skein of colors; cornflower 132, cream 01. Few meters of red 106, gray 355, and black 60.
  •        Hook size 3 mm.
  •         2 buttons 1.5 cm diameter (2 cm for 6 year size)
  •        Tapestry needle
  •         Stitch marker
  •         Cornflower and white poplin cloth, 112 cm (44”) wide, 74 cm (78 cm, 84 cm) long.
  •        Sewing threads of matching colors.
Note: Information for the larger two sizes are written in brackets.

Sizes: 4, 5 and 6 years

Chest: 60 cm (23.5”), 62 cm (24.4"), 64 cm (25.25")
Dress length: 54 cm (21.25”), 60 cm (23.5"), 66 cm (26")
(All dimensions are approx.)

Front C2C Square:

Note: The C2C square is crocheted with cornflower yarn, its edging with cream yarn.
For the largest size (6 year), for the smaller two other sizes, cut one square border for the 5 year size, and 2 square border for size 4 year. (Follow the pattern)
When the C2C square is finished, it should measure 17X17 cm2 (19X19 cm2, 21X21 cm2).
Edging: follow the pattern I’ve drawn.

Back Square:

With cornflower color make a magic ring.
Round 1: ch 2 (don’t count as st), dc, *ch 1, 2 dc, repeat from * two more times, ch 1, dc, sl st to second ch of first ch2.
Round 2: ch 2 (counts as one dc from here on), *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the next ch 1 space, 2 dc. Repeat from * two more times, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the next ch 1 space, dc, sl st to second ch of first ch 2.
Round 3: ch 2, 2dc, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the next 2 ch space, dc in each 6 sts. Repeat two more times, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the next 2 ch space, 3 dc, sl st to second ch of first ch 2.
Round 4: ch 2, 4 dc, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the next 2 ch space, dc. Repeat two more times, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the next 2 ch space, 5 dc, sl st to second ch of first ch 2.
Work 11, (12, 13) more rounds, repeating the increase pattern, cut yarn. Now you get 19.6X19.6 cm2 (20.8X 20.8 cm2, 22X22 cm2) square.

To make the left under arm piece, bind on yarn (cornflower color) to center line st of the back square,
Row 1: ch 2, dc in every st to the corner of the square, dc in the 2ch space, turn.
Row 2: ch 2, dc in the same st, dc in each st to end of row, turn.
Repeat (row 2) 11 (12, 13) more times. Cut yarn leaving 30 cm (11”) for sewing.
Make the right under arm piece the same, on the other side.
Make the straps:
From upper side of the back square, on each corner, bind on yarn in the ch2 space
Row 1: ch 2, dc 9 (9, 11), in the next sts, turn.
Row 2: ch 2, dc in the same st, dc in each st to end of row, turn.
Repeat (row 2) 14 (16, 18) times, then make the button hole row.
Button hole row: Ch 2, dc in the next st, 3dc (3dc, 4 dc), ch 3, skip 3 sts, 3 dc (3 dc, 4 dc).
Last row: ch 2, dc in the next st, 2 dc (2 dc, 3 dc), 3 dc in the ch 3 space, dc (dc, 2 dc), 2dctog, cut yarn.

Back piece edging: follow the pattern.

Sew the under arm left and right extensions to front C2C square under the border edging.

Sew the buttons on the upper corners of the C2C square.

Sewing the skirt

Fold the cloth width wise, and cut to make 37x112 cm2 (39X112 cm2, 41X112 cm2) two pieces.
Sew alongside short edges.
Gather the upper edges to the width of the the yoke, sew them together.

Sew the skirt hem.
