Mocha Cherry shawl

Note: the written instructions have been updated and a chart has been added on March 7th, 2021.

I have been wanting to try my hand at the half-circle shawls for a while, but I was somewhat reluctant, as I was under the impression that I'll have to learn some complicated knitting method to get the semicircle shape. This month I finally decided to put some effort and make one. I started by looking for a simple increasing pattern to use, followed by many trials and errors. I was finally able to come up with a pattern that suits me, a simple stitch-increasing repetition that will enable me to expand the size and make the shawl as big as I prefer.

So this is my first half circle shawl. It is easy to make, and you can knit it using any other type of yarn you like. I had lots of fun making this shawl, so why don't you give it a go and make one for yourself! Stay safe and healthy, and see you in another post.

  1. Hi dear, thank you for sharing a beautiful patttern. Since I knitted up to Row 21, and starting Row 22,
finally there's 12 stitches at the end instead of what you said 10 stitches. I redo it again and again, and
still count 12 stitches at the end. Don't know how to fix it to fir in the pattern.

    2. Hi
You are right there is a missing 2 sts, and I've added it.
But rows (23-28) need to be checked, so I'll start to make a chart to solve the mistake (if there is one) and add it to the post. I hope you finish your shawl soon.
      Thank you a gain.

  2. Hi, Wiam. I was stumped with the very first instruction: "Cast on 3 sts, knit 10 rows, pick up 1 st out of each purl row (5 sts in total) from one side of rows, and 3 sts from bottom. (11 sts)" Do you mean ten rows of Stockinette? If so, do you mean make an increase like M1 on the purl rows? and only on one end of the row? Wouldn't that make it straight on one side and slanting on the other?
    Sorry to be so dense.
    Thanks, JOY

    1. Hi Joy,
You can view a detailed explanation (with pictures) on how to start knitting a shawl like this one in my Aqua Tides Shawl post (see the first part of the instructions section). The number of rows may differ, but the steps are the same. here is the link to that post:

      Hope this helps.

    2. This shawl is starting with what is known as a "garter tab", it's quite common on shawls, you will straight knit as instructed without increases. This is an excellent choice of pattern to learn this technique, as the pattern is so well written and the design is fabulous!
