Since mid March, I haven't been able to visit my favorite craft shops downtown as often as I need to, to resupply my yarn stash. So for safety reasons, I opted to go through all the yarn I have at hand and make do. While rummaging around I found the remaining skein from my "Lemon Berry Shawl" (it's crochet not knitting, for your information) and it inspired me to make a hat. If you have been following me for a while, you might have noticed a pattern here, Haha! looking back I can proudly call this year; the year of head wear.
This project is a simple beret that shines with circles the color of sunset. By picking up a multicolored yarn, you can make one in a day time and wear proudly in the upcoming cold Fall nights .
Stay safe, stay healthy, and enjoy knitting!

Instructions:
With 3.5 mm circular knitting needles cast on 126 (144) sts. Join in the round. Don't know how to join in the round? here is a short tutorial on how to do it (from 0:26 - 1:15 min):
Put the ring stitch marker at the beginning of rounds.
Ribs Pattern:
Round: *k 1, p 1, repeat from * to end.
Repeat the row 9 times (3 cm/ 1.2").
Change to 5 mm knitting needles and knit one round, then work the following:
Round 1: *k2tog, yo, k 1, yo, ssk, k 4, repeat from * to end.
Round 2: * k 5, p 4, repeat from * to end.
Round 3: knit to end.
Round 4: repeat round 2.
Repeat 1-4 rounds six (seven) times then work 1-3 rounds once.
Round 1: *ssk, k 1, k2tog, p 4, repeat from * to end. (98, 112 sts)
Round 2: knit to end.
Round 3: *k 3, p 4, repeat from * to end.
Round 4: *s2s1ktog, k 4, repeat from * to end. (70, 80 sts)
Round 5: *k 1, p 4, repeat from * to end.
Round 6: k 2, k2tog, *k 3, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k 1. (56, 64 sts)
Round 7: *k 1, p 3, repeat from * to end.
Round 8: *k 2, k2tog, repeat from * to end. (42, 48 sts)
Round 9: *k 1, p 2, repeat from * to end.
Round 10: *k 1, k2tog, repeat from * to end. (28, 32 sts)
Round 11: *k 1, p 1, repeat from * to end.
Round 12: k2tog to end. (14,16 sts)
Cut yarn, leaving a 6" (15 cm) long yarn tail, pull it through all sts and tighten tog. Weave in loose ends. Make a small pompom and attach it to the top if you like.
Lastly, feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions or find something confusing in the pattern.

Angie, I don't know what is going on with this pattern.I did it in 126 and it looks great. However, the decrease seems to be off, I am left with extra stitches after the first round of the decrease.
ReplyDelete*ssk, k 3, k2tog, p 4, repeat from * to end. (98, 112 sts)
Please help me. Thanks. Dee
Hi DeeDee
DeleteThank you for choosing this hat to knit. The first round has been corrected.
*ssk, k 1, k2tog, p 4, repeat from * to end. (98, 112 sts)
Thank you again and have a nice and healthy day.
Wiam
ssk (2) + k3 (3) + k2tog (2) + p4 (4) 2+3+2+4 = 11.
ReplyDelete126 is not divisible by 11.
Good Morning Wiam,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the quick response, I was able to get on my merry way again.
I found one more. Row 6 of the decrease:
k 2, *k2tog, k 3, repeat from * to last st, k 1. (56, 64 sts)
There are 70 stitches from row 5. When we k2 on row 6, there are 68 stitches left. 68/5 =15, with 3 remaining (k2 tog +k3 =5).
There are 3 stitches remaining, not 1 at the end. Please help.
You may also want to make the corrections on the Ravelry pattern.
The hat is coming along nicely and looks lovely :) Thanks for a nice pattern.
Hi DeeDee
Deleteplease check round six now.
By the way, I don't have patterns on Ravelry. My designs are free and this means there is the link to my blog on the page of each of them only.
Wiam
Okay Wiam, I think I figured it out. I think a K2 together should be placed before the final K1. Please let me know if that is correct. Thanks a bundle.
ReplyDeleteYes you are correct.
DeleteSuper artykuł. Pozdrawiam serdecznie.
