This month, I took a little break from my main knitting projects, and tried small crochet Ideas, such as this granny square. Having some left over sport cotton and acrylic sport yarn, that I am not willing to throw away, I pushed my hands to hold a hook and start a granny square this time around.
Though I don't fancy making baby blankets out of granny squares that much, because they require loads of work to assemble, on top of having to make their many parts. But, a summer should not pass by without making one, no matter what the method used in the making.
So in this post I present my humble granny square to you. Tune in for my upcoming post, where I will show you how to make a baby blanket that has this granny square as its base.

Materials
- Materials:
- Yarn: Alize Diva Baby, yarn weight: 100 g/ 3.53 oz. 350 m/ 383 yds, thin sport. 1 skein of cream (A) and any other color (B).
- Crochet Hook: 3 mm.
- Tapestry needle.
Measures: 11 x 11 cm/ 4.25 x 4.25 inches approx.
Crochet terms US
- ch: chain
- ss: slip stitch
- sc: single crochet
- dc: double crochet
- fpdc: front post double crochet
- fptc: front post treble crochet
1. Work 5 double crochet (dc) stitches in the same stitch.
2. Drop the loop from your hook.
3. Insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group.
4. Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.
Instructions:
Starting with color (B) , make a magic ring, or make a 4 chain ring.
Round 1: ch 3, *dc, ch 1, repeat from * seven times, ss to 2nd ch of 1st ch 3.
Round 2: ss to ch 1 space, (ch 2, dc 1, ch 2, dc 2) in ch 1 space, skip dc, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch 1 space, skip dc, *(dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch 1 space, skip dc, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch 1 space, skip dc, repeat from * three times, ss to 2nd ch of 1st ch 2.
Round 3: ss to ch 2 space, (ch 2, dc 1, ch 2, dc 2) in ch 2 space, dc in dc twice, skip dc, ch 1, make 1 popcorn st in ch 1 space, skip dc, ch 1, dc in dc twice, *(dc 2, ch 2, dc 2) in ch 2 space, dc in dc twice, skip dc, ch 1, make 1 popcorn st in ch 1 space, skip dc, ch 1, dc in dc twice, repeat from * three times, ss to 2nd ch of 1st ch 2.

Cut yarn, weave in loose ends.
