Lady Cool Shawl

Hello friends, it's been a while! I took a break and travelled back to my home country. I'm back now and I am very eager to post my new designs. I hope you all had a relaxing summer vacation!

I love knitting ribs patterns, so I was fascinated with the right diagonal ribs pattern the second I saw it on Pinterest. But when the lateral braid pattern came across my eyes, a sparkle lit up, and so I combined both in one shawl.

At first, I couldn't decide the difficulty level of this shawl, because working both patterns requires that you are familiar with keeping stitches in needles and knitting them more than once before dropping them. I finally settled with 'intermediate'. I think that reading the instructions carefully, and watching the videos that I linked above will help you with any difficulties you may face. I'm sure knitters of the intermediate level will be able to make this shawl.

Materials

Yarn: alize superlana Midi Pullu, 67% acrylic, 23% wool, 5% polyamide, 5% payette, 3.53 oz/ 100 g, 164 yds/ 150 mt, fancy- unbrushed. Skein colors: White 55 (3 skeins), powder 161 (1 skein).
Knitting circular needles: US: 11, 8 mm, 30 inch/ 80 cm long.
Tapestry needle

Yardage:

640 - 660 yds/ 580 - 600 m.
Level: Intermediate.

Measures:

67 inch/ 170 cm wide, 31.5 inch/ 80 cm long (diagonally).

Color sequence: start with one white skein,then the powder-colored skein, and finish with the remaining two white skeins. The shawl can be worked with one color, or more than two, if you like.

knitting Terms (US)
k = knit
p = purl
sl =slip stitch
k2tog = knit 2 stitches together.

Instructions:

cast on 3 sts and purl them (row 1).

Right diagonal ribs pattern:

Row 2: sl st, yo, knit the 2 sts together without dropping them from left needle, knit the first stitch then drop both from the needle.

Row 3 and every odd number row: sl st, p all sts.

Row 4: sl st, yo, knit 2 sts together without dropping from left needle, knit the first stitch then drop both from the needle, k 1.

Row 6: sl st, yo, * knit 2 sts together without dropping from left needle, knit the first stitch then drop both from the needle, repeat from * to end.

Row 8: sl st, yo, knit 2 sts together without dropping from left needle, knit the first stitch then drop both from the needle, repeat from * to last st, k 1.

Row 9: sl st, p all sts.

Repeat rows 6- 9 until you have 36 right diagonal ribs, and finishing row 9. (74 sts).

(Estonian) lateral braid pattern:
The lateral pattern will enter the rows gradually. First in last last 4 sts, then it will add up by 2 sts every row:

Row 1: sl st, yo, knit 2 sts together without dropping them from left needle, knit the first stitch then drop both from the needle, repeat from * to last 4 sts, which are last two diagonal ribs pattern. work them as follows:

1. insert right needle in the back loop of the second stitch in left needle, yo, pull yarn, do not drop any stitch.

2. turn right needle to front and insert it in front loop of first stitch in left needle, yo, pull out yarn.

3. drop both stitches off the left needle.

4. slip the first stitch in right needle back to left needle. Repeat.

Note: in last repeat of pattern, only 1 to 3 steps is worked.

Row 2: sl st, p all sts.

From now on rows will begin with sl st, yo, right diagonal ribs pattern minus last 2 sts (a rib), and working them in lateral braid pattern with the rest of stitches to end of row.

Work on till all ribs are turned to the lateral braid pattern. The next rows will be worked as follows:

Row 1: sl st, yo, work all stitches in lateral braid pattern.

Row 2: sl st, p all sts.

Repeat row 1 and 2 five more times (or as much as you prefer).

Bind off all stitches in a stretchy method.
