Windows Hat

Hello my fellow crochet enthusiast! This Hat is an accompanying piece to a crochet shawl called "Windows Shawl", which you can find posted here on AllFreeCrochet.com's website, as part of their 10th birthday celebration, so go check it out. This matching set has a lovely window-like pattern, and it is one of my favorite designs for summer. I made two variations of this hat, the pink one, which has 4 "rows" of the window pattern, and the dark gray one, which I made using a bulkier yarn, and it features only 2 window rows. I hope you get to make one or both. Happy crocheting!

Midnight Blue Hat

Hi friends! It's my 100th design on this blog! Yay! Thank you so much for all of you, who keep up with my work. Thank you for leaving all the lovely comments, and for sharing my work with others. I hope you will enjoy and show love to my future works, too.

So, this design is an accompanying piece for my Midnight Blue Scarf. I really loved how that scarf turned out, so I decided to make a matching hat using the same technique.

Please note that while the difficulty level for scarf was easy, the hat is a bit trickier to make; you have to pay extra attention to the needle changing steps, and tighten the first stitch of every round, or you will end up with a noticeable gap.

I really hope you will make both, and enjoy wearing it.

Put the ring stitch marker at the beginning of rounds. Work as follows:

simple ribs pattern: k 1, p 1, repeat to end.

Repeat the row 9 times.
Note: you don't need st marker when working the next 28 rounds, because you use different circular needle each round.

Work next round using 8 mm circular needle

Round 1: (k 1, ptbl) to end.

Work next round using 4 mm circular needle:

Round 2: (ktbl 1, p 1) to end.

Repeat rounds (1-2) twelve (fourteen) times.

With 4 mm circular needles k two rows. put back the st marker at the beginning of round.

Decreasing rounds:

Round 1: *k2tog, k 8 (9), repeat from * to end.

Rounds (2-3): k to end.

Round 4: *k2tog, k 7 (8), repeat from * to end.

Rounds (5-6): k to end.

Round 7: *k2tog, k 6 (7), repeat from * to end.

Rounds (8-9): k to end.

Round 10: *k2tog, k 5 (6), repeat from * to end.

Round 11: k to end.

Round 12: *k2tog, k 4 (5), repeat from * to end.

Round 13: k to end.

Round 14: *k2tog, k 3 (4), repeat from * to end.

Round 15: k to end.

Round 16: *k2tog, k 2 (3), repeat from * to end.

Round 17: k to end.

Round 18: *k2tog, k 1 (1, 2), repeat from * to end.

Round 19: k to end.

For size M/L, work the next 2 rounds:

Round 18: *k2tog, k 1 repeat from * to end.

Round 19: k to end.

For all sizes, work the last round:

Last round: k2tog, to end.

leave a 15 cm / 6" long yarn tail then cut. Pull the yarn through all sts, and tighten tog. Weave in loose ends.

Midnight Blue Scarf

As I am constantly binging Youtube's knitting pattern videos, I find myself repeatedly impressed by the global knitting committee and all the new (to me, of course) methods and styles they come up with (among my favorites are Russian and Turkish knitters, they are masters of the art). I appreciate the effort they put in making these videos so much, since they make it so easy for any knitter to follow their instructions.
For this project, I was really interested in a knitting technique that requires two different needle sizes, where one needle is double the size of the other. When the two needles are used alternately to knit a piece, you obtain a beautiful, textured relief, with a fluffy and airy look. So I got to work and came up with this scarf, which is super easy and enjoyable to work. I hope you have fun knitting this simple, yet unusual looking piece.
